Links

All the best Irish Links for filmmakers and movie buffs.

Below are a list of all the best sites related to film and, in particular, film in Ireland. Some are obvious, some you may not have heard of. They are divided into different categories, be it general film info or film-making tips. And to boot I’ve added a little synopsis of what to expect. I also have a list of forums: never underestimate the power of forums to forge contacts in the film-making world. Enjoy!

Irish Websites.

The SPI represents “Irish independant film, television and animation producers”. Particularly handy is the A-Z list of production companies from all over Ireland.

Judging by the out of date news headlines scrolling along the top of this site, I think it may be dead. However, there’s still a mini database of production companies to sift through and some other handy links for film-makers.

All of these sites refer to the actual film centres in Dublin, Cork and Galway. These venues are where film-makers can hire equipment and check the notice boards for potential jobs. Weekend courses for film-makers take place frequently also.

     Irish Forums.

These forums are a handy point of contact for amateur film-makers, actors or anybody with an interest in film. The films.ie forum is tailored for film buffs more than film-makers however, but don’t let that put you off!

May not seem to be of much interest if you live outside of Dublin but they do run courses from time to time.

If you have a film that needs funding the IFB might be worth a look…Plenty of news in there too.

If you fancy a cameo, this site is becoming more and more popular for aspiring actors.

     Irish Film Festival Sites.

These sites are worth keeping an eye on all year round if you want to enter a short film. Watch out for closing dates for entries. Also you can usually download applictions if you wish to volunteer for a festival; something many wannabe film-makers and film buffs do.

More handy filmmaking links. (Non Irish).

This is, and I quote, “one of the oldest filmmaking resources on the net”. It’s been running since 1994 and it’s well worth a look. There are over 200 FAQs for filmmakers and a forum aswell as the chance to purchase books and equipment.

This is not half as extensive as the site listed above, and some of the news may be useless to Irish enthusiasts, but saying that there is a link to “The Eejits Guide to Filmmaking” (no offence) and some handy recommended reading.

This is a good site and, although UK based, it gives advice to those with a serious interest in filmmaking. Lots of tips on how to get your career moving on here.

Righty-oh that’s it for now, but I’ll be adding more links as I find them. And only the best links too! So bookmark this page and don’t forget to check back here.
