The Stub

The release of the as of yet Untitled X Files movie sequel on August 1st (for us Irish cinemagoers) is garnering much publicity, something which proves that The X Files really was a classic TV series. What other series could still have fans anticipating a second movie ten years or so after the actual series ended? Well perhaps the Sex and the City fans will stand the test of time…but so far the X Files is still one of tv’s more powerful franchises.

As a self confessed X Files fan I admit that I am eagerly awaiting the new release, particularly as the movie’s details are being kept well under wraps. It’s a smart publicity stunt but one that always works well. The less hype the better these days as audiences have surely learned by now that too much hype is normally an indicator of a disappointing film (The Da Vinci Code, Mr and Mrs Smith etc.) Nevertheless a few titbits have been leaked out to keep the fans happy. IMDB has some cool pics of the FBI couple here which unfortunately I am unable to transfer to The Stub! I must say that I’m disappointed that Scully has yet to update her wardrobe. But here’s something for ye anyway: it’s a pic of Xzibit (rapper and ‘Pimp my Ride’ host) who plays a fellow FBI agent in the film. If the casting sounds unusual, remember that loudmouth Scotsman Billy Connolly is also taking a supporting role. An early trailer can be seen here on youtube. It’s not terrific quality but it’s watchable and I’m 99 per cent sure that this one is not a hoax!
